Info about beer thieves at Dorr truck stop sought

These two thieves took a reported $300 worth of beer from the beer cooler at the Dorr truck stop at about 2 a.m. Thursday morning and helped themselves to several things off the store shelves! Anyone who has any information about them is encouraged to come forward. A store representative said they were driving a black car and neighbors are viewing their cameras next door as well to see what else can be learned. The business, which includes an Exxon gas station and J & H Convenience Store, is located at 1311 142nd Ave. just off the U.S.-131 expressway at Exit No. 68. Area people who know anything are encouraged to call the Allegan. County Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer.

How shocking! How could people could do such a thing?

I am estimating they are just local farmers that needed some beer after working the fields all day. Maybe they just forgot to pay? My opinon, my choice.

Forgot to pay? Come on they just plain thrived, no respect for others property.

Also are they sure they were not driving a pickup? Those old farm boys usually roll in them there pickem up trucks. My opinion.

You can run, but you can’t hide, no matter how far away from Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, crime will come to your small towns. These are probably not first time offenders. They have looked at targets with minimal security and easy egress. The truck stop’s convenience store gave them both. The store was a soft target. The thieves got their faces on video but they also learned what they could steal in a given amount of time.

These guys are professional thieves. It is their job. Some of us used to punch in to a job. Now you wave your digital employee ID at the time clock or cash register to log in. Others turn in weekly call reports or driving/delivery logs. When these guys need cash they rob businesses or people. They have zero interest in getting a different “job.” All kinds of employers are desperate to hire people. Past history including prior convictions and time at a drug treatment facility are no longer deal breakers for a lot of employers.

This isn’t 20-30-40 years ago when people wanted decent jobs and couldn’t find employers to hire them and “get a job” was a derisive phrase made by people who were employed in a tough job market. People like those in the video don’t want a legitimate job.

J & H and other owners are going to be ready to spend thousands on renovations at their locations to protect employees and make their stores along 131 look and operate much more like similar businesses, like those on I-94, I-96, I-69 and I-75. They had also be ready to pay higher wages because their cashiers’ jobs in the hinterlands have become more dangerous.
I’m sure J & H’s business insurance premiums will climb even higher if they don’t protect their employees following another robbery and next time employees are hurt or worse.

In the title image it appears the “youth” likely gave a good left palm/finger print on the glass surface of the door. I respect and know our Police are busy. But I hope they were able to get some prints. Also I find it shocking that J H security cameras did not get license plate info? Although apparently, many believe they do not need a license plate these days. My opinion, my choice.
