The Dorr Township Board will have a special meeting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the township hall, 4196 18th St., Dorr, MI.
There has been a great deal of speculation that at least four board members will meet to discuss the possibility of purchasing the Cross Winds Church building and property at 1683 142nd Ave., which only recently was listed at $600,000.
A Townbroadcast reader suggested the township buy the site and building and speculation has been fueled by the recent realization that the Sustainable Business Park project has been halted because the main tenant has filed for bankruptcy. This frees up $200,000 the township had committed to the project with federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. The township was reported earlier this month to have $330,000 in ARPA funds, so adding the $200,000 would give the township almost 90 percent of the money needed to buy the church and property.
It was noted that at the very least, Trustees John Tuinstra and Chandler Stanton, Clerk Debbie Sewers and Treasurer Laurie Perry will appear at the meeting Saturday morning. Though they can adjourn into closed session to discuss purchasing real estate, the session will begin as a public meeting.
The Township Board this year has had several discussions about the current hall being inadequate to handle the needs of local officials and the fire department. Most recently there was consideration of expanding at the current site to the south.
