ITC granted site plan for downsizing building

The Wayland City Planning Commission Tuesday evening gave its approval to a proposed site plan from the Michigan Electric Transmission Co. (ITC) at 801 S. Main St.

ITC, which manufactures electric equipment, has operated at that site since the closure of the old Kessler’s Undies and Woolies business, apparently wants to tear down the building in back of the main office and replace with a smaller structure.

A representative from Excel Engineering said, “We’re shrinking the building from a footprint standpoint.”

Jason Derry from Professional Code Inspections (PCI) insisted that the move would “result in a smaller building in square footage) that exists now.

The parcel is zoned industrial and Derry noted there would be no change in its designation or landscaping.

The vote was 6-0 to approve the request.
