Despite several delays to iron out issues with financing, all systems now are go for completion of the Jayda Gayle Distillery in downtown Wayland.

“We have financing finally, to make up our deficit,” said co-owner Amanda Alfred. “Construction should resume mid-April. We’re going to start putting our club together soon, so folks should keep an eye out for that. We‘re shooting for early summer opening,” but she declined to be specific about the exact date.

Alfred and her partner, Ryan Levett, are financing through First National Bank of Michigan.

Alfred said Jada Gayle will include club memberships with annual contributions to obtain reduced prices.

“You’ll get a percentage or dollars off drinks on Club Night, or all the time, we haven’t decided,” she said, “private release parties, discount on private events (like New Year’s party or Valentine’s dinner, etc.

“We found a blown glass place in Kalamazoo that we’re going to contact about custom unique glasses (martini and rocks) for members, so they’ll all be different. Customers’ glasses will live in our dining room on display (but safe) for a year, then they can take it home.”

Jayda Gale announced plans to open a distillery and restaurant in 2014 and bought the former Wayland Carpet and Appliance building at the corner of Pine Street and South Main.

Alfred and Levett have torn down and remodeled a lot of the inside and outside of the building, exposing many historical artifacts.

Though some have asserted Jayda Gale will face parking issues, Alfred said there won’t be any problems. She noted the city bought the huge lot behind the restaurant/distillery and there is parking next to the library.

She noted it takes three years on average for a typical brewery or distillery to open.

“We’re right in line,” she said.
