Jo Bryant of Dorr dies 5 days after her 84th birthday

Johanna Jo Bryant 4175128_300x300_1of Dorr, who celebrated her 84th birthday just last Friday, died Wednesday, March 25.

Jo was born March 20, 1931, in Kalamazoo to Elzo and Gertrude Veenkant. Since retiring, Jo and her late husband, Richard (Dick Bryant), looked forward to their weekends up north, hunting, fishing, playing poker, and spending time with family and friends around the campfire. Jo also loved watching NASCAR, going to the casino, volunteering at Project Hope, filling her home with Native American decor, and wearing items from, what some would describe as, her “over-the-top” jewelry collection.

Survivors include children Diana (Bob) Allen of Richland, Sue Ann Nemeth of Benton Harbor, Douglas (Angie) Santee of Kalamazoo, Kellie (Ed) Vandermolen of Hudsonville, and John Bryant of Hudsonville; brother John (Betty) Veenkant of Richland, 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins; best friend Betty Merrifield, and trusted companion, Bo Sansombut.

Jo was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Dick Bryant, and her son-in-law, John Nemeth.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at the Cook-Kubiak Funeral Home, 4330 18th St., Dorr. The funeral will be at the Dorr funeral chapel at 6 p.m.
