Kalamazoo man gets 32 to 50 for 2019 crime spree

William Thomas Travis, 23,  of Kalamazoo, sentenced to 32 to 50 years in prison last week in Allegan County Circuit Court for a crime spree that included assault with intent to murder, carjacking and multiple home invasions near Martin, Wayland, Hopkins and in Manlius Township.

Travis pleaded guilty to about a dozen felonies June 15 and 16, when he stole several cars, fled police, crashed several cars and broke into homes and threatened occupants at gunpoint. He also pleaded guilty to numerous other charges, including carjacking, first-degree home invasion, fleeing a police officer and several firearms offenses.

Koch said Travis had done bleeding in one house after injuring himself, causing the needs for a biohazard cleanup at $116,000. He was apprehended June 16 after being shot in the chest by police while attempting to flee in a fourth stolen vehicle.
