Kevin Charles Stevenson died Saturday, Aug. 1, at his home in Wayland.
Born Feb. 21, 1979. in Allegan, he was the eldest child of David Lloyd Stevenson and the late Charlotte Ann (Butler) Jones. Kevin defied the odds given to him at birth by living forty-one years.
He loved spending time with his family and those he loved as much as possible and he always was sure to remind his siblings that he was the big brother. Kevin thrived on routine. For the past 20 years made sure he visited Subway for lunch and frequently visited his “girlfriends” at the Speedway near Allegan High School to get snacks. He also enjoyed walking around downtown and stopping in Village Market to see familiar faces.
Kevin liked hanging out at home, too.putting together puzzles and listening to music, especially Michael Jackson, amongst others. He also enjoyed talking on the phone and calling to check on his loved ones, especially his grandparents. Kevin loved to watch “”Law and Order” and enjoyed discussing the episodes with his sister, Nicole, who was his best friend. Kevin was also an avid football fan who rarely missed watching a Detroit Lions or University of Michigan game.
Besides his father, David Stevenson, Kevin is survived by his paternal grandmother, Marjorie (Stevenson) Brown; his siblings, Nicole Stevenson, Kelsey Somerville, Breanne McCarty and Deion Stevenson; nieces and nephews, Tyree, Amarie, Jayde, Michael “Bubba” and Jameson; aunts, Anita Butler, Diana Williams and Della Dandrige; and a host of cousins, family friends and caretakers.
Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles Butler; maternal grandmother, Shirley Butler; paternal grandfather, Jesse Stevenson; and aunt, Beverly Butler.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be planned for a later date, with Gorden Funeral Home handling arrangements.
