Korean Conflict veteran James Carpenter of Dorr dies at 87

James R. Carpenter, age 87 of Dorr, died Thursday, March 24.
James grew up in the Romeo, Mich., area. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. James retired as a machinist after working for many years at National Twist Drill and later Federal Screw Works.
James is survived by his children: Joyce (Warren) Cater, Glenn (Christi) Carpenter, Joan (Paul) Shurtz, Gary (Jan) Carpenter, and Clyde (Rose) Carpenter; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; brother Clifford (Carol) Carpenter and sister Dolores (Ron) Hamm; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend Loretta Carpenter, March 9, 2005; his parents Charles and Clarbel Carpenter, his brother Charles Carpenter, and sister Lucille MaHaffy.
Following James’ wishes cremation has taken place. Donations in memory of James may be made to Great Lakes Caring, 630 Kenmoor Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 49546.
James and his family are being cared for by the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, Dorr Chapel.
