Wayland High School graduate Kyle Pitcher is coming back home to do what his grandfather did for many years — teach at the high school.

But while grandfather Bobby Kerley was a social studies teacher and debate coach in the 1960s,’70s and ’80s, Pitcher will be directing the school’s orchestra program, succeeding the almost legendary Karen Nofsinger.

Pitcher majored in music at Western Michigan University after he graduated from Wayland and performed with all-star ensembles and was a member of folk group as a bassist. Pitcher, son of Roger and Renee Pitcher of Wayland, plays bass in an area pop/jazz/folk musical group that performs for engagements.

He has been director of the fifth and sixth grade orchestra at Goshen High School in Indiana for the past four years.
