Lacey James, who graduated from Wayland High School last spring after earning Class B All-State accolades in basketball, is a freshman on the varsity basketball team this winter at Rider University, an NCAA Division I school in New Jersey.
James has scored 12 points and gathered 12 rebounds in a dozen games for Rider, which is 3-9 for the season overall.
James was a three-year starter on the varsity for Wayland and helped the team go 19-4 overall last year and advance as far as the district finals before losing to state champion Wyoming Godwin Heights. He was a key figure as a junior in the Wildcats’ district and regional championships, losing in the quarterfinals to eventual state champion Milan.
