“It was homecoming at Martin High School and we were able to pull out a good win tonight to get us back on track,” said coach Ben Schipper. It was very similar to our first matchup with Coloma. We got out to an early lead only to have Coloma claw their way back in. However, this time we were able to get to a comfortable lead in the fourth (quarter) to close the game out.”

The Lady Clippers were led by Gracie Shettler, coming off an injury, with 14 points and Makala Goddard added 13. Combined they hit seven three-point field goals.

Shettler got off to a hot start by scoring 11 points in the first quarter and Goddard sealed the game with 10 points in the fourth.

“Avery and Lynsey Jager both got into foul trouble and Sam Stone played some great minutes for us off the bench,” the coach remarked. “We had some stretches where we looked really good offensively. We were preaching ball movement and shot selection all game and it was great to see it pay off on many possessions in the fourth quarter.”

The victory lifted the Martin girls’ overall season record to 6-5.

The Clipper boys, however, dropped a 59-26 decision to the Comets and saw their overall season record slip to 3-6.
