Martin, the sixth-ranked Class D girls’ basketball in the state this week, came away with a convincing win Tuesday night against Delton Kellogg, 58-33, to improve its overall season record to 12-1.

The Lady Clippers wasted no time in establishing dominance in the game by grabbing a 20-8 lead at the end of the first period. They were up 30-13 at intermission and 48-27 at the end of three periods.
Martin senior Faith Guritz scored her 1,000th career point in the third quarter and finished the game with 17 points, landing at 1,006 as a four-year starter.
Jaclyn Hildebrand added 13 points, five assists and four steals, and she made three of four three-point field goal attempts. Kiaya Warner had 11 points, Gracie Shettler 7 and Bri Warner had 6.
Coach Ben Schipper said, “I’m so proud of the energy we came out with. Our effort has been great all year, but we’ve been talking a lot about the difference between effort and energy. Our girls were much more engaged and locked in throughout the night and it showed with the result.
“This was another great example of a team win. Everyone came off the bench and made plays. We had more assists than turnovers (14 to 11) which we’ve done several times this season now.
“It was such a great joy to watch Faith score her 1,000th point in the third quarter. She’s been a go to scorer in this program for four years and it’s awesome to see it culminate to this great feat. I’ve only had the pleasure of coaching her this season, but I’ve been watching her play since middle school if not earlier. She always has such a poised demeanor on the court and that has really helped our team succeed.”

Later in the evening, the Martin boys won 59-51 over Delton to lift their season record to 4-9 and 2-4 in the Southwest Athletic Conference.
