It was an emotional end to Martin’s hoops season Thursday evening in the Class D regional championship game after Athens stopped the Lady Clippers season on a 41-28 dime.

After one period, Athens was up 12-6 and the Lady Clippers attempted to make a comeback, trailing 25-21.

Faith Guritz had 9 points for Martin and Jaiden Hurst counted 18 for Athens.

During post-game, coach Doug MacVean talked about the progress this season.

“We’ve made a name for ourselves as a good team and I feel that we can only get better.”

The Lady Clippers are done with their season at 12-11 and will return all but one player. Senior Briana Balder leaves the team after three years on varsity. 

Athens, with a 21-4 record,advances to the quarterfinals at Gull Lake next week.
