Lady Clippers move to 16-4 with non-league victory

The Martin girls’ varsity basketball team now owns a 16-4 overall record for the season after another defensive dominated victory Tuesday evening.

The Lady Clippers defeated Howardsville Christian 39-28 on their home court. They already have claimed the Southwest Athletic Conference Central Division title.

Coach Ben Schipper said, “We got to celebrate our seniors Tuesday night and honor them for their years of commitment to the Martin girls’ basketball program — Lynsey Jager, Cirsten Coburn and Samantha Stone and our senior exchange student Noa Martin who was a great addition to our JV team this season.

“We got off to a good start in the first half getting up 28-12 at half time. Makala Goddard was scoring at will reaching her game high 15 points through the first 12 minutes until she picked up her second foul and we rested her until the second half.

“Avery Jager played a great game showing her scoring ability when she’s aggressive on offense and she had some great rebounds and defensive pressure.

“We look to finish the regular season on a high note at Delton to try and obtain a perfect 10-0 division record.

The Martin boys lost 71-52 to Howardsville Christian in the nightcap Tuesday and saw their overall record slip to 2-17.
