Martin’s girls’ basketball team came away with a 49-27 win over Galesburg-Augusta Friday night to improve its overall season record to 2-0 and to claim its first win in the SAC this season.

It was a low-scoring first half, but Clipper sophomore Faith Guritz put up 7 points and GA’s Samantha Verberg 5, as Martin was up only 13-12 at intermission.

To start the second half, the Lady Clippers seemed came out of the locker room refreshed and ready to go. Guritz would add 14 more points, to lead the visiting team with 21 points. She also grabbed 10 rebounds and had four steals.

Jaclyn Hildebrand contributed 13 points and Kiaya Warner put 7 on the board. Additionally, Senior Brianna Balder added 6 points.

Coach Doug MacVean and his Clippers now have a 2-0 record as the season gets under way. The Lady Clippers will play Lawton another Southwest Athletic Conference opponent, this time at home, on Tuesday evening.
