Kiaya Warner (3) nailed four three-point field goals, but Martin wasn’t able to do much else offensively Monday night.

The Martin girls’ varsity basketball team absorbed only its second loss in 11 games this season Monday night at the hands of Delton.

Coach Doug MacVean explained, “Settling for shots instead of attacking the rim and not going after rebounds and loose balls were our biggest problems.”

Things went fairly well in the early going, as the Lady Clippers were up 9-8 at the end of the first quarter and trailed only 16-12 at intermission, but the Panthers owned the second half and won 42-27. Martin failed to score in double figures in each of the four periods.

Briana Warner had five points and Jaclyn Hildebrand two, but al other Lady Clippers went scoreless.

Kiaya Warner was the only Clipper to score in double figures, as she dropped in 14 points. She nailed four three-pointers and two free throws. But no one else was able to get much going on the offensive side, as next highest point total was Faith Gurtiz with six. Guritz also had six rebounds.

As a team, Martin’s shooting was a frigid 18.4 percent.
