The Hopkins volleyball team Saturday was runner-up in the Newaygo Invitational.
The Lady Vikings couldn’t get past Saranac, neither in pool play no in the championship finals.
They opened pool play with a 25-23, 25-23 loss to Saranac, but rebounded to take White Cloud 25-18, 25-20 and Hesperia 25-19, 25-17.
Hopkins overcame Shepherd in a grim three-setter 21-25, 25-17, 15-13 but then lost in the finals in three sets 25-16, 21-25, 15-5.
In individual statistics, setter Logan Brummel dished out 80 assists for the day;
Meghan Schulz had 33 kills, Macy Arndt 28, Logan Brummel 21, Ashley Bultema 14 and Brianna Miller 13; Schulz came up with 11 blocks, Mikayla Bulich 5, Brummel 3; Brummel had 10 serving aces and Miller 8, and Hailey Shank had 42 digs, Bulich 35, Brummel 28 and Nicole Pitsch 22.
The Lady Vikings’ overall record now is 14-10-2 and they are 1-1 in O-K Silver Conference dual matches.
