Fresh from a championship performance in the Coach B Invitational Monday, the Hopkins girls’ varsity cross-country team was runner-up Thursday at the Delton Invitational at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners.

The Lady Vikings finished second to Paw Paw’s 45 team points with 73 in the 10-team field.

The Hopkins boys checked in fifth with 116 points, despite an individual medalist performance from junior Todd Henly with a time of 16:48.44=, the only harrier of the day to eclipse 17 minutes.

Hastings won that team race with a score of 37.

Senior Molly Thompson of Paw Paw was the only female harrier to complete the course in fewer than 20 minutes, checking in at 19:32. Hopkins senior Jasmine Fisher again led her team with a 21:05.93 time, good for fifth place.

Emma Helder also took a top 10 place, checking in ninth with a five-kilometer time of 21:51.83.

Senior Laura Velderman continued her recent determined effort to regain her past prowess by finishing 11th, Alyssa Beilby was 20th and Gracie DeZeeuw 28th.

Backing Henley was Dan Rausch, who was 11th in 18:28.69. Zach Nutter was 22nd in in 19:10.77. Joe Ludlam was 58th and Jake Pastoor was 66th.
