The Hopkins High School girls’ varsity cross-country team took fifth place among eight teams in the O-K Silver Conference jamboree Wednesday at Gezon Park in Wyoming.

The Vikings boys had a rough day, finishing seventh among the seven participating squads.

Meet host Calvin Christian won the girls’ competition with 27 points and Sparta was second. Sparta won the boys’ race with 37 points, besting Calvin Christian by 12.

Freshman Helena Kerber continued to be impressive in her first series of varsity races, taking 11th place with a time over five kilometers of 20:52.33. Neveah Helderop kept up her solid improvements by taking 31st, Abigail Zalis was 37th, Mary Wells 39th and Alexis Zalis 42nd.

Adam Ball was the Viking boys’ top male harrier, finishing 29th in 19:25.36, Trevor Shealy was 34th in 19:46.36, Caleb Beilby was 50th, Dean Heiden 59th and Zach Wisser 61st.
