Lady Vikings cop 4th title in invitationals with 1st in Switek

The Hopkins High School varsity volleyball team captured its fourth invitational championship this fall by taking first in the 15th annual Switek Memorial Invitational in Hopkins.

The Lady Vikings went 7-0 in dual match encounters for the day. They now own a 42-6-4 overall season record and they are 4-0 in the O-K Silver Conference dual match standings.

Hopkins defeated Martin 25-21, 25-11 in the opening round; Holland 25-17, 25-13; Grand Rapids Union 25-4, 25-4 and Hastings 25-20, 25-16 in pool play. The Lady Vikings bested GR Union 25-1, 25-10 in the quarterfinal round, edged Fremont 26-24, 26-24 in the semifinals, and  took out Holland 25-11, 25-21 in the championship match.

Leading Hopkins in individual statistics for the day’s action were:

• Assists – Corrie Wisser 101, Lindsey Bulich 37.

• Kills – Brianna Miller 83, Ashley Bultema 32, Corrie Wisser 20, Natasja Terpstra 17, Natalie McDonald 15.

• Blocks – Lindsey Bulich 6, Brianna Miller 4, Natalie McDonald/Natasja Terpstra 3, Corrie Wisser 2, Ashley Bultema 1.

• Aces – Ashley Bultema 18, Brianna Miller 14, Lindsey Bulich 8, Corrie Wisser 4, Payton Nichols/Evangelina Helderop 3.

• Digs – Brianna Miller 54, Ashley Bultema 51, Lindsey Bulich 28, Corrie Wisser 24, Evangelina Helderop 22, Payton Nichols 20, Emma Martonosi 19.

The Lady Vikings will try to improve to 5-0 in league play Tuesday evening when they take on North Pointe Christian.
