Hopkins absorbed a heart-breaking 3-2 loss to Division Zeeland East in a non-conference softball matchup Monday afternoon.

The Lady Vikings scored a run in the bottom of the seventh and final inning, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

Sierra Smith suffered the pitching defeat, hurling four and two-thirds innings before giving way to freshman Dahlia Veldhouse. Smith helped her own cause on the offensive by driving in a run. Aubrey Russell collected two of three Viking hits. Zeeland had just four hits and Smith and Veldhouse combined on seven Chix strikeouts.

Hopkins now owns a 3-3 overall record, 3-1 in the O-K Silver Conference.
