It was close, but no cigar for the Hopkins girls’ varsity basketball team Tuesday night against visiting Wyoming Godwin Heights.

The Lady Vikings were just two points shy of scoring their first O-K Silver Conference victory of the season while taking a heart-breaking 49-47 loss. The two teams were tied heading into the final quarter at 32-all, but the Wolverines had a 17-15 edge in those final eight minutes.

It was a close ballgame throughout, with neither team leading by more than two points at the end of any of the four periods. They were knotted at 9-9 after the first quarter and Godwin led 20-18 at the half.

Junior center Meghan Schulz scored 17 points to lead the Lady Vikings and Mikayla Bulich added 11.

Hopkins now sports a 2-7 record overall for the season and is 0-3 in the league.
