The Hopkins girls’ varsity basketball team lifted its overall season record to 6-12 with a 56-8 victory over Kelloggsville Tuesday evening.

The boys’ varsity, however, lost to the Rockets by a 76-67 count.

The Lady Vikings took a 23-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and were up 39-6 at the half. the game was played on a running clock the rest of the way.

Leading the Hopkins offensive attack was Caitlin Rodenhisler with 17 points, Maddie Krcatovich added 12 and Meghan Schulz had 10 points.

The Viking boys suffered early defensive lapses on offensive drives to the basket by Kelloggsville.

Justin Weick led the Vikings in scoring with 18 points, Curtis Opatic had 12 and Nolan Smith had 9 points and 8 rebounds.

Hopkins boys will plays at home Friday against Wyoming Lee, a team it edged 60-59 earlier this season. The Vikings are 7-11 overall and 5-6 in the O-K Silver Conference.

Hopkins girls will play Holland Calvary in a nonleague game at 7 p.m. Thursday on its home court to close out the regular season. The Lady Vikings then will meet either Wayland or Allegan in the Class B district semifinals Wednesday, March 1, as tourney host.
