The Hopkins varsity softball team stepped outside of conference play Thursday and dropped a walk-off heartbreaker, 5-4.

The Lady Vikings scored all four of their runs with a huge rally in the third inning. But the Chix came back with two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to pull it out.

Sophomore hurler Maddie Schans threw all seven innings, gave up eight hits, two walks and struck out two. Haleigh Miller had a double. White added a single with two RBIs.

The loss dropped Hopkins’ overall record to 10-4. The Lady Vikings Friday and Saturday are scheduled to compete in the Lowell Invitational, weather permitting.
