The Hopkins girls’ varsity track team appears to be closing in on its seventh consecutive O-K Silver Conference track championship.
The Lady Vikings Thursday improved their league dual meet record to 5-0 with an 88-39 triumph over Kelloggsville. They have only one more league dual meet, a makeup against Northpointe Christian, and the O-K Silver meet is scheduled for Friday, May 11, at Calvin Christian.
Hopkins is hoping to avoid a repeat from last season when it came into the league meet undefeated, but finally had to settle for a co-championship because Belding sneaked into first in the conference competition.
Belding has lost only two dual meets in recent season, both at the hands of the Lady Vikings.
The web site carrying the results of Thursday afternoon’s dual meet did not provide any statistics. But Viking boys’ coach Jamie Kiss provided the scoresheet from the boys’ contest, which was won 82-50 by Kelloggsville.
First places were captured by Aaron Maule in the pole vault (9-0); the 3200 relay team of Dan Rausch, Jacob Pastoor, Zach Nutter and Todd Henley (9:35.53); Nutter in the 1600-meter run (5:17.46), and Henley in the 3200 (11:31.52).
Nutter and Pastoor went 2-3 in the 800 and Henley added a second in the 1600. Trey Collins and Elliot Fair went 2-3 in the high jump.
The Hopkins boys now are 1-4 in league dual meets for the season.
