The Hopkins girls’ varsity softball team lifted its overall season record to 5-2 Monday with a doubleheader sweep of NorthPointe Christian.

The Lady Vikings took the first game: 10-3 and then came back to win the nightcap, 9-2.

Hopkins put up four runs in the fourth inning of the opener. Katilyn BluhmMaddie Wyngarden,  Madelyn Schans and Hannah Wubben all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
Schans pitched all five innings to pick up the victory. She allowed two hits and three runs while striking out eight.
The Lady Vikings tallied 18 hits in the game with WubbenEmily DimockWyngardenEmma MartonosiSchans, and Sierra Smith all getting multiple hits. WyngardenDimock and Wubben led the way with three apiece, Wyngarden pilfered three bases.
Coach Amy Bishop Funk said Hopkins has eight stolen bases and did not commit an error defensively.
Sierra Smith took the win in game two, allowing two hits and two runs over two innings, striking out three. Schans threw five innings in relief out of the bullpen. Schans recorded the last 15 outs to earn the save.
Hopkins had eight hits in the nighcap, with Emily Dimock and Wyngarden both getting more than one.
