The Hopkins girls’ varsity basketball team absorbed its second defeat in as many starts this season with a 50-34 nonleague loss to Comstock Tuesday on its home court.

The Lady Vikings, who gave Grand Rapids West Catholic a good battle in their season opener Friday night, had a horrible first quarter, falling behind 16-4 and couldn’t muster enough of a comeback. They were down 28-12 at intermission and battled the Colts evenly the rest of the way.

Mikayla Bulich and Meghan Schulz both scored eight points for Hopkins.

Daisy Ansel scored 19 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, had five steals and three blocks for Comstock and Ahkyla Blakely contributed 11 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
