
The Hopkins varsity softball team swept a doubleheader Friday against Plainwell to improve its overall season record to 4-2.
The Vikings won the first game 7-6. Freshman Jorja Wood pitched three innings in relief and struck out eight batters and walked one. She also hit one double and had three runs batted in, the last one a game winner after the Trojans issued an intentional walk to the hitter before her.
Wood hurled the entire gam e in the nightcap, which was shortened because of the 10-run mercy rule. Wood had seven strikeouts and yielded three hits and four walks. She also came up with three runs batted in with a double and two singles.
