owling team has been doing very well on the lanes, and this holiday season they’re doing well for the community with a toy drive for gifts for underprivileged children.
Lady Wildcats’ coach Bill Holbrook explained, “Since I started at Wayland, I’ve wanted to start doing some sort of community service as a team. However that has yet to happen. After losing my wife suddenly this past summer I had decided that my family would try to help out a family in need at Christmas.
“Saturday, after the tournament, I asked the girls on this team if they’d like to get involved also. Their response was beautiful.”
Holbrook lost his wife, Wanda, last summer in a freak tragic work-related accident.

“They basically had one day to shop and they did this! ” Holbrook said. “I’m so excited to give these to the pastor of my church to take to the family. I will be adding more to this before then, but wow, what a great heart these ladies have! They were so excited and so were their parents.
“I want to thank all of the team members for joining with me to make a difference in a family’s life and be a blessing to others. Wanda would be so geeked by your response!”
The Wayland girls’ varsity bowling team is still savoring its school-record-breaking championship performance Saturday the Cedar Springs Invitational Tournament.
