The Wayland girls’ varsity bowling team won twice in dual matches this week to improve their overall season record to 6-1-1.
The Lady Wildcats had no trouble in turning back Hudsonville Unity Christian 26-4 Thursday and Byron Center 29-1 Wednesday.
Wayland and Unity Christian were the teams to beat last year in the O-K Gold/Green Conference, but that that changed this year because Unity lost most of its starters to graduation.
Wayland dominated the first Baker game 190-159 and struggled in the second Baker game, losing 168-156. The score was 6-4 in favor of the Lady ‘Cats.
Individual game one featured a balanced Wayland attack. Marissa Bruinsslot had a 203 game, Erin Porteous 192 and Sydney Urben 182. All but one point was taken this game.
Game two featured another balanced attack. This game featured three Wayland ladies striking out in the tenth frame. Marissa Bruinsslot had a 185, Alicia Sweeney 195 and Sydney Urben 239.
“These girls roll such powerful balls. I am in awe of their talents,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak.
She added it was a very balanced contribution to the win over Byron Center the next day.
Baker game one was won by Wayland by a score of 146–129. In game two Wayland overtook the Bulldogs by a score of 177-151.
The first set of individual matches were highlighted by Marissa Bruinsslot’s 214 and Sydney Urben’s 188. Leading the second set of individual matches were Sydney Urben’s 199 and Mackenzie Banas’ 190, Erin Porteous’ 187, and Alicia Sweeney’s 182.
