The Wayland girls’ varsity golf teWHS girls golfam finished third in the O-K Gold Conference meet Thursday and climbed into third place for the season overall.

The final 18-hole tourney for league teams was held at the Meadows Golf Course on the campus of Grand Valley State University.

Hastings won the league title with a team score of 378, outshooting runner-up Grand Rapids South Christian by 15 strokes. Wayland checked in at 399, GR Catholic Central 425 and Middleville Thornapple Kellogg 443.

The Lady Wildcats spent the entire month of September battling Catholic Central for the third spot in the Gold standings and by shooting the better score in the final league jamboree they earned third place.

Senior ace Ali Martus shot an 80 and tied for medalist honors, but lost the distinction in a playoff.

Hunter Fenton recorded a 104, Alexis Kirschbaum a 105 and Marisa Schild a 110.

The Wayland girls’ squad will compete in the Division 2 regional tournament Thursday, Oct. 8.
