The WaylandWHS basketball girls’ junior varsity basketball team claimed its 13th victory against six losses this season with a 53-33 victory over Hastings.

The Lady Wildcats started slowly, trailing 13-9 after the first period, but outgunned the Saxons 17-7 in the second quarter and 23-5 in the third quarter.

“We switched up our defense after half time and we were able to put away the Saxons in the third quarter,” said coach Coralie Miller.
Taryn Coughlin scored 24 points, the fifth time she has tallied more than 20 this season. The two dozen marked her career high.

Sam Shealy came up with six rebounds, Sam Nieuwkoop had 10 points and 5 rebounds, and Alexis Kirschbaum and Rylee Foster 5 rebounds apiece.
