The Wayland girls’ varsity bowling team, now ranked No. 5 in the state in Division 2, improved its overall season record to 9-1-1 Monday by defeating league rival Grand Rapids South Christian 23-7.

The Lady Wildcats also were ranked fifth last year by the Michigan State Bowling Coaches’ Association.

The Wildcats boys did not fare as well Monday, dropping a 28-2 verdict to the Sailors, and their overall record sank to 3-7.
