The Wayland girls’ Girls-Soccervarsity soccer team won two of three encounters Saturday at the Comstock Park Invitational.

The Lady Wildcats, now 8-5-1 for the season overall, exacted revenge on Zeeland West, which had defeated them previously this season, by a 1-0 count, was blanked by Big Rapids 3-0 in the second game and finished off the day with a 4-1 victory over the host team.

Junior scoring ace Ali Cutler came up with the only goal in the victory over Zeeland West. Goalkeeper Hannah Anderson was 4-for-4 in saves. Wayland had 16 shots on goal, but only one went into the net.

The second game saw the Wildcats fall to an undefeated Big Rapids team 3-0.

In the third and final match of the day, goals were scored twice by Brinley Nieuwenhuis and once by Emily Gray and Jackie Richardson, who scored her first-ever varsity goal.

The girls will play on the road Monday against ever-tough O-K Gold Conference rival South Christian.
