The Wayland High School giwildcat-logo-copyrls’ and boys’ cross-country teams competed in the star-studded Otsego Invitational Saturday morning, with the girls finishing ninth with 237 points and the boys 16th with 408.

Coach Sue Brewer said her Wildcat ladies, missing Maggie Whitney and Peyton Sidebotham with injuries, “had a really good run at the very loaded Otsego Bulldog Invitational.”

Senior captain Emily Gray recorded her season best time of 20:53, followed by freshman Rylee Cronkright once again with a personal record time of 21:13. Following not far behind was sophomore Zoe Antel with a season record of 21:21.

Senior captain Emily Isenhoff ran a season best time of 21:52, closing in on a personal record followed by junior Kaitlyn Paul with a 21:58.

The competition was so good that last year’s Division 2 state champion Erika Freyhof of Hamilton had to settle for third. The sensation of the meet was freshman Makenna Veen of Plainwell, whose time of 17:56.3 was good for the runner-up slot.

The boys’ team was led by senior Captain Jonathan Zuiderveen, who was 45th in 17:38.4. Ethan Killips was 88th, Garret Kloska 100th, Jarod Geerligs 103rd and Jacob Jelsema 104th.

The girls will be running on their home course on Wednesday, October 5 in the OK Gold Jamboreee.
