The Wayland girls’ track team posted their first dual meet victories of the season Tuesday by beating Wyoming 84-48 and South Christian 89-44.
The boys’ track team, meanwhile, lost a double dual meet to South Christian and Wyoming, 94-63 and 72-64, respectively.
Individual and relay winners for the boys were:
Caleb Wolf 400M 51.61 (vs. both South and Wyoming)
Josh Butler 800M 2:18.95 (vs. Wyoming only)
Robin Juppe 3200M 11:16.86 (vs. Wyoming only)
Robert Bausick Shot 44’9″ (both South and Wyoming)
Devin Jakey High Jump 5’4″ (vs. Wyoming only)
Devin Jakey Long Jump 20’0″ (vs. Wyoming only)
3200 Relay — Alec Zoerman, Elijah Gamelin, Cole Huff, Josh Butler 9:05.92 (vs. Wyoming only)
1600 Relay — Ashton Ordway, Josh Butler, Seth Sevenski-Popma, Caleb Wolf 3:31.26 (both).
The Lady Wildcats lifted their O-K Gold Conference this season to 2-4 with the double victories.
Sophomore Mie Tornbjerg won the 1600-meter run in 5:55.25. Senior Maggie Whitney was first against both opponents in the 800 with a time of 2:36.95. Freshman Naomi Oosterhouse won the 3200.
Sophomore hurdling ace Corrina Courser was back in action after missing a week with injuries. She was second to South Christian star Mariel Bruxvoort, who flew to victory in 15.58 seconds while Courser checked in at 16.89, about a half second off her school record time. Bruxvoort also blistered past everybody in the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.3 and Courser was runner-up.
The Lady Wildcats won the 800 relay with a quartet that included Sierra Greer, Kylea Wells, Courser and Madelyn Probst with a time of 1:53.09. Greer, Probst, Audrey Lepper and Courser hooked up to win the 1600 relay in 4:29.61.
Whitney, Zoe Antel, Oosterhouse and Tornbjerg combined efforts to take the 3200 relay in 11:01.47.
Madelyn Probst went four inches higher than all other comers by clearing 4-10 in the high jump.
Jessica Hortman won the discus against South Christian with a toss of 86-08. and freshman Johnnie Mellema and Alice Magoni went 1-2 in the pole vault against Wyoming. Lepper and Hortman went 1-2 vs. South Christian in the long jump and 2-3 against Wyoming.
Both Wildcat squads will be at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids Saturday morning and afternoon for the O-K Gold Conference meet.
