The Wayland High School varsity soccer team made history Friday evening at Byron Center by capturing its first district championship in the Lady Wildcats’ 25-year history playing the sport. The girls defeated Grand Rapids Christian 2-1  in the finals after pulling out a double overtime 2-1 thriller over the host team Wednesday. Both opponents entered the matches with far superior overall records, rendering Wayland as a bonafide Cinderella team.
