The Wayland girls’ varsity bowling team claimed a 29-1 victory Monday over Grand Rapids Christian, but the guys lost 22-8.

Leading the Lady Wildcats were Brooke Bixler with games of 158 and 130, Lily Gates with 125 and 148, Haley Taylor 111 and 103, Bella Harnish 157 and 170, and league individual leader freshman Kadence Bottrall with 204 and 219.

The boys showed improvement after a two-week slide, according to coach Sherry Rybiski Miklusicak.

“Even though we lost, we had chances to win both matches,” she said. “We took one of the two Baker matches and earned four points.

“In the individual games we were in it until about the darn eighth frame again. We must fill frames in order to win.”

Jordan Fitzgerald took both of his points with games of 163 and 197. Chandler Caruso had taken game two with a 162.

“Overall we bowled much better as a team this afternoon and we showed good promise,” the coach said.
