The Wayland softball team captured its ninth consecutive Division 2 district championship Saturday at Lakewood High School.

The Lady Wildcats shut out Hamilton 10-0 in the district opener and took a 12-1 decision from the host school in the finals. It was the second straight year Wayland defeated Lakewood in the district championship games.

The Lady Wildcats, now 24-7 on the season overall and ranked No. 7 in the final regular season state-wide poll, will move on the regionals next Saturday. They will take on Forest Hills Eastern in the regional semifinals at 11 a.m. at Hope College. Forest Hills Eastern owns the distinction of being the only team in the O-K Gold to beat Wayland in the last five years.
