Lady Wildcats face tough 19-1 Newaygo in quarters

The Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team will meet Newaygo in the quarterfinals of the post-season state tournament at 7 p.m. Monday at Vicksburg High School. The Lady Wildcats have their work cut out of them against a 19-1 opponent that defeated always-tough West Catholic in the regional finals. The Lions’ only loss f the season came against Portland in February. The Lady Wildcats have won their first regional championship since 2012.

  1. Don't Tread On Me

    I heard from a basketball coach close to the tournament, West Catholic didn’t have two of their best players playing when they lost. I wouldn’t discount Newaygo’s abilities, however they don’t play the level of competition Wayland does. Good luck to Wayland!
