The Wayland girls’ soccer teaimgm came up just short 2-1 Monday night in a conference home game vs Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

Despite trailing early, the girls responded quickly as Ashlyn Schafer (fifth assist of the season) played a great ball through to Ali Cutler (sixth goal of the season) who beat the goalie to tie the score before halftime.

The second half saw the Wildcats continue to dominate in possession and with chances to take the lead throughout, but the Cougars came up with a late goal and some missed opportunities cost the home side in the end as they couldn’t find the back of the net.

Wayland outshot Catholic Central 9-5 in the match. Goalie Paxton Granger, came up with three saves on five shots faced.

The loss brings the Lady Wildcats’ overall record to 6-9-2 on the season (2-5 OK Gold).

The girls have their last regular season home game on Thursday as they host Hastings.
