Lady Wildcats give South a tussle until 4th quarter

The Lady Wildcats were missing their point guard and second leading scorer, Parrish Hudson.

The Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team led South Christian by two points going into the final eight minutes, but the visitors exploded for 25 points in the final quarter to take a 63-52 victory.

The Lady Wildcats were nursing a 40-38 advantage until South took advantage of numerous free throw opportunities down the stretch.

Wayland for the third straight game was playing without starting junior guard and second leading scorer Parrish Hudson, who suffered a concussion earlier this month in a win over Wyoming.

Junior pivot Stephanie Ainsworth scored 19 points, nine on free throws. Senior Kenzie Wolf, sophomore Emma Ludema and freshman Maddy Terry combined for 19 points, with each making one three. Ludema and Wolf both had seven points.

Senior forward Haley Dobry had eight points and Katy Anderson six.

Wayland now is 12-7 overall and 5-6 in the O-K Gold Conference.

The boys’ team struggled offensively and lost 60-30 to the Sailors later in the evening.
