The Wayland boys’ varsity cross-country team finished 36^th among 39 teams Friday at the annual Michigan State University Spartan Invitational and the girls’ squad was in the middle of the pack in 22^nd place among 37 teams.

The annual race was held on the Forest Akers East Golf Course.

The Wildcat boys accumulated 1,070 team points. Chesea won with 70 and Allendale was runner-up with 105.

Checking in first individually for Wayland was senior Ian Russell, who had a time of 20:47.9 along the 5K course. Freshman Jared Jandernoa was 230^th, freshman Travis Koon 233^rd, senior Steven Mosher 274^th and freshman Devin Weaver 290^th.

There was a total of 347 male harriers in the race.

Freshman Olivia Barabas again was the fasest of the Lady Wildcats, checking in 54^th with a time of 21:37.5. She was followed by senior co-captain Gracie Hasse at 78^th, sophomore Hannah Smith 135^th, junior Naomi Oosterhouse 179^th and sophomore Serenna VanHouten 184^th.

Three hundred and thirty-five young ladies competed.
