The Wayland girls’ soWildcats in the parkftball team Saturday was not able to to take the championship trophy the star-studded Ann Arbor tournament, as it has so often in recent years.

The Lady Wildcats went 5-1 on the day, dropping a 2-0 decision in the semifinals to St. Clair Shores Lake Shore. The Wildcats went into the game as No. 1 in the state in Division 2.

Wayland earlier in the day defeated  Temperance Bedford, St. Clair Shores Lake Shore, Brighton, Adrian, and East Kentwood before losing to St. Clair Shores Lake Shore 2-0 in the semifinals. So the Lady Wildcats had beaten St. Clair Shores earlier in the tournament.

Wayland outhit Lake Shore 5-4 in the game, but was unable to push a run across the plate.

Players of the tournament were Mallory Teunissen, Leigha Morse, and Abby Merice.

Wayland ended the day with a 24-2 record for the season overall. The Lady Wildcats also were shut out in their other loss earlier this spring, 2-0 to Zeeland West.
