Wayland lost 4-2 to Grand Rapids Christian Wednesday night in its last regular season home girls’ soccer match of the season. The Wildcats fell behind early in the first half and continued to put pressure on but were unable to break the Eagles’ back line. A late second goal brought the halftime score to 2-0 in favor of the visitors.

“The Wildcats came out in the second half a bit sluggish,” noted coach Ben Sleeman, “allowing two more goals before flipping the switch and shutting things down defensively and kicking things up a notch offensively.”

Two late goals, one by Amanda Brown (her 19th of the season) and another by Kennedy Thelen brought them within striking distance, but a couple of missed opportunities cost them their chance at a heroic comeback.

The loss brings the Lady Wildcats’ regular season record to 6-8-2 (3-8-1 in the  O-K Gold for fifth place)

The girls will travel to Middleville Thornapple Kellogg Tuesday to take on the Trojans third time this season in in the district tournament opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
