After that really bad day in Holland last Saturday, The Wayland varsity softball team got back to work in a doubleheader sweep of O-K Gold Conference rival Thornapple Kellogg.
The Wildcats took both ends, winning 10-5 in the opener and 13-3 in game two.
Sophomore Harmony Laker three a complete game win, going seven innings, yielding 10 hits, but walking none and striking out 11.
Offensively, Izzy Johnson drove a double to knock in three runs, Reese Veltman added a two-bagger and two singles, Laker helped her own cause with three singles, and Rae Stallard collected two hits, as Wayland had 11 hits in all.
The Wildcats rallied with four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Game two was shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule.
The offensive highlights were a home run apiece by Harmony Laker, Johnson and Kami Morse. Laker also belted a double as did Carli Miklusicak.
Freshman Madi Ludema picked up the victory on the mound, throwing five innings, yielding four hits, walking three and striking out five.
The Wildcats now are 13-6 overall and they are 6-0 in O-K Gold Conference play.
