The Wayland girls’ softball season came to an end in the state Division 2 quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon at Davenport University.
The Lady Wildcats lost 14-2, much in the same manner they won all season long.
The Bulldogs blew the ballgame open early, scoring five times in the first inning and finishing the contest in just five innings because of the mercy rule. The Lady Wildcats scored their two runs in the third, with Chanlyn Commons drilling a single to drive in both.
Wayland finished the season with a 28-11 overall record, an O-K Gold Conference championship, a district championship and a regional championship, not too shabby for a team that was supposed to rebuilding after winning the state title a year ago.
