The Wayland girls’ baWHS basketballsketball team remains at No. 2 in this week Associated Press Class B state-wide poll.

Coach Marty Howard’s Lady Wildcats are 14-0 and will play at Hamilton in a non-league contest tonight.

Interesting is that neighboring Plainwell is 15-0, but only honorable mention on the list. Grand Rapids Catholic Central, which Wayland edged by one point in overtime last month, is No. 5.

On the boys’ side, Wayland, with a 10-3 overall record, is tied for eighth with Benton Harbor. Also of interest is that Otsego, which coach Mike Hudson’s ‘Cats defeated last month, is No. 6, and Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills, which now has defeated Wayland twice and Middleville Thornapple Kellogg, which upset the Wildcats last month, are nowhere to be seen in the state rankings.

Milan, the team Wayland lost to last year in the state quarterfinals, remains at No. 1.
