The Wayland girls varsity golf team shot its best round of the season Wednesday on the home course at Orchard Hills.

The Lady Wildcats finished with a score of 178, but still it only landed them in fourth place for the fourth O-K Gold Conference jamboree of the season.

Several personal nine-hole round bests were shot. Lauren Drew led the team with a 41,  followed by Abby Omness 44 and Savannah Jones 44.

South Christian again was first with a team total of 165, Grand Rapids Christian was runner-up at 169 and East Grand Rapids was third, just one stroke ahead of Wayland. Rounding out the team competition, in order, were Forest Hills Eastern, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg and Wyoming.

“We are getting better every time we go out and play,” said coach Chris Drew. “If we keep working hard, the girls can do great things this season.”
