The Wayland varsity softball Softball league champsteam captured the O-K Gold Conference championship Monday with the greatest of ease by taking out Grand Rapids South Christian 3-0 and 14-0 in a doubleheader.

It coach Cheri Ritz’s Lady Wildcats’ 11th consecutive season in which it has either won or tied for the league title.

Senior Mallory Teunissen threw a no-hitter in the first game with 16 strikeouts.
Leading the Wildcats on the offensive sideof the ball were Abby Merice, Hailey Houck, Sydney Urben, Mallory Teunissen and Morgan Winger. The Lady Wildcats pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of eight Sailors’ errors in the nightcap.

Wayland completed the league season with a perfect 10-0 record and now sports a 26-2 overall record. The Lady Wildcats were ranked No. 1 in the state Associated Press Class B poll for the last several weeks, but a loss in the Ann Arbor tournament to St. Clair Shores may drop them in this week’s top 10 listings.
